50th anniversary • Mixed in Atmos by David Kosten, Steven Wilson and Jean-Michel Jarre • Includes 192 kHz / 24 bit Unlimited Stereo Remaster by Miles Showell
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jean-Michel Jarre's groundbreaking 1976 masterpiece Oxygène, a 50th anniversary SDE exclusive blu-ray is now available to pre-order - for a very limited time – presenting the landmark album with its most advanced audio presentation to date.
Oxygène (English: Oxygen) is an album of instrumental electronic music composed, produced, and performed by the French composer Jean-Michel Jarre. It was first released in France in December 1976. Jarre recorded the album in his home using a variety of analog synthesizers and other electronic instruments and effects. It became a bestseller and was Jarre's first album to achieve mainstream success. It was also highly influential in the development of electronic music and has been described as the album that "led the synthesizer revolution of the Seventies"
This iconic recording has been mixed in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 Surround by David Kosten, Steven Wilson and Jean-Michel Jarre, from the original multi-tracks, with sessions in Paris and London to perfect these immersive mixes.
In an excerpt from notes in the blu-ray booklet, David Kosten explains the methodology of this process:
"A crucial part of the original 1976 production was the extreme left/right panning between a dry (un-effected) sound and an echoed version of itself. Mostly on the original Oxygène stereo mix, we hear a dry sound panned hard to the left, and a rolling, repeating tape-echo version of it panned fully to the right, at the same level as the dry tone. This gives the music an incredibly wide, spacious and unique feel.
All of this was vital to keep intact while making new versions for 2026 – the sound balance was so carefully mixed and delicate on the 1976 original stereo mixes, and we worked to both recreate the sonics of the original mixes, and to allow the music to breathe anew in a three dimensional format.
We refined all of the motion, the spatial positioning and balances of the album. We have let go of some of the [original][ fixed left/right panning in these new immersive versions, and often allowed the trailing, vaporous echoes to move around the space (‘Part II’ has lots of this). All the sounds disappear into the centre speaker at the end of ‘Part III’, before re-emerging with the birdsong, directly above us, using the height speakers. In ‘Part V’, the drums and bass circle the listener, while the melodies play from multiple spaces around the room. The ocean in ‘Part VI’ crashes over us from front to back now - and the seagull flies about the landscape too!"
In addition to the Atmos and 5.1 mixes, the blu-ray also features a Miles Showell 2026 remaster of the original 1976 album made from a new transfer of the original stereo tapes (recently unearthed from Jean-Michel Jarre's archive). This is unlimited audio presented at the highest possible resolution (192 kHz / 24 bit) - the original version has never sounded better, and probably never will!

Additionally, the blu-ray includes Oxygène (Part IV) original music video, upgraded to HD, and an exclusive 30 minute video interview with Jean-Michel Jarre, David Kosten and Steven Wilson conducted at Abbey Road Studios earlier this year, during the remastering sessions.
The blu-ray comes with 48-page booklet featuring essays from music journalists Alexis Petridis (The Guardian, UK) and Alma Rota (Rolling Stone, France) and David Kosten's notes about mixing in Dolby Atmos (all three in both French and English). It also includes rare images from the Thames & Hudson book 'Machines: A History of Electronic Music (by Jean-Michel Jarre).
The SDE exclusive blu-ray is #80 in the ongoing SDE Surround Series and comes packaged in the same deluxe hardcover media book packaging used in the past for Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry SDE blu-rays. As ever, it ships with a free, collectible SDE Surround Series slipcase.
This SDE exclusive blu-ray is the ultimate way to experience one of the most influential electronic albums ever released, but don't hang around because this blu-ray edition is a TIME LIMITED release; the pre-order window closes in just 9 DAYS, on 15 October 2026. Availability after that point cannot be guaranteed.
Oxygène will be released on 4 December 2026 via BMG. Any item ordered alongside this Jean-Michel Jarre blu-ray will not ship until that date.

This blu-ray audio requires a blu-ray player. Decoding the Dolby Atmos Mix requires a Dolby Atmos certified soundbar or a Dolby Atmos compatible receiver or amplifier, with appropriate speaker set-up. The Dolby Atmos Mix will play on 5.1 systems. It will 'fold down' to 5.1 if an Atmos decoder is not detected and sounds in elements that are unique to Atmos (e.g. 'height' speakers) will get player via other channels.
