SDE EXCLUSIVE • 35TH ANNIVERSARY REISSUE OF THE CULT CLASSIC 1991 ALBUM • 2CD SET IN DELUXE DVD-SIZED CASEBOUND BOOK PACKAGING • BONUS DISC FEATURES 11 UNRELEASED TRACKS AND REMIXES • 36-PAGE BOOK WITH NOTES FROM EG AND ALICE • STRICTLY LIMITED TO 1000 COPIES

SDE Records is proud to present a 35th anniversary deluxe reissue of the ‘lost’ cult classic album 24 Years Of Hunger by Eg and Alice. The 2CD set features the original CD running order as well as eight unheard tracks, early demos, two B-sides and three remixes.

The set is presented in a high-quality DVD-sized casebound book deluxe edition, with a spot-varnished front cover and a 36-page book about the making of 24 Years of Hunger featuring new interviews with Eg White & Alice Temple, and previously unseen photos taken around the time of the recording of the album.

Founder of SuperDeluxeEdition.com and SDE Records, Paul Sinclair, says of the album and his long-standing desire to reissue it, "I have loved the album since I bought it on cassette in 1991. It has everything: fantastic songs, a wonderful production and a certain element of mystery. 24 Years of Hunger is somehow never dulled by repeated listening, and my hope is that this new edition will introduce the album to a wider audience who will be similarly seduced by its charms. For those that already cherish this record, the deluxe edition expands the story with the unheard songs, the demos and comprehensive notes from Eg and Alice."

Initially released to critical acclaim in Autumn 1991, 24 Years Of Hunger was the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Eg White, who had served time in both Cowboy Punk and Pure Pop bands and the first female UK and European BMX champion, British BMX Hall of Famer, ex-Blitz ‘face’ and model, Alice Temple. The pair were introduced by a mutual friend and instantly clicked, writing their first song Highway, which is being released for the first time on this deluxe edition.

Alice:We were both completely obsessed at the time with Prince, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan and Curtis Mayfield; we were into the same kind of music. I always loved classical music too, and he came from a classical music background, so there was that as well.” Eg:A friend said, "I think you ought to work with Alice”. Alice was playing guitar; she was self-taught. I obviously had a massive head start, coming from a musical family, but she had unimpeachable taste from the beginning.”

The first fruits of the sessions were the single Indian, and while it got them a prestigious slot on the Wogan show on BBC1 and some radio play, the single charts remained untroubled. However, the album struck a chord with the so-called ‘serious’ music press. Q Magazine, which at the time was the bastion and arbiter of music taste, gave it a four-star review, saying the LP “manages to retain a demo freshness whilst exuding a breezy, studio-confidence. The shrewdly constructed and curiously unforgettable songs hang upon skilfully integrated voices, gently grooving rhythms and a pleasing assortment of soothingly lovesome sentiments. Those who have secretly yearned for a modern reincarnation of The Carpenters will fall helplessly for the breathy loveliiness of Rockets and the delicate pulse of the splendid single, IndianQ then also made it one of their albums of the year

In the years since 24 Years Of Hunger, Eg has become a three-time Ivor Novello award-winning and Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer for artists such as Adele, Olivia Dean, Will Young, Take That, Kylie, Duffy, P!nk, Florence And The Machine, Sam Smith, Mary J. Blige, Linkin Park, Tom Grennan, Celine Dion and many more. The pair reunited in 1999 to work on Alice’s sadly unreleased album for V2, Hangover, but finally recorded one more song together, Pull Me Through, for Eg’s 2009 solo album Adventure Man, finally closing the circle.

To quote 24 Years of Hunger’s original press release, And so, there we have Eg and Alice. The first truly interesting pop proposition of the ’90s, a mass of contradictions, a music that speaks for itself in a language that might just need interpretation.”

This special physical edition is limited to 1,000 units worldwide and is SDE to the SDE shop.

24 Years of Hunger, the 35th anniversary 2CD deluxe edition, will be released on 10 April 2026 via SDE Records.
